Abstract:

WEB algorithms record trends in interest on health-relevant topics. We studied web queries to identify post-November Blue patterns. We analyzed Relative Search Volumes (RSV) by Google Trends on “prostate cancer” (CAP), “prostate examination” (EP) and “PSA”; 260-week time series (2014-2019; region: Brazil; category: Health); trend lines (polynomials order 2) to identify patterns; means compared by ANOVA. Results: Sudden growth in November searches; Searches on CAP surpass EP and PSA; CAP annual means stable; EP with slight fall; PSA with marked rise. In November, campaign months: CAP Minor increase; EP stability; Marked PSA elevation.
Discussion: “Blue November” campaigns encourage early identification of prostate cancer, although interest showed here is focused on the disease with disinterest in diagnosis throughout the year. Differences“Pink October” are discussed - weak interference of educational level on prevention habits and celebrity influence. The rise of PSA searches is discussedthe perspective of interest in diagnostic technologies. We concluded that VPR analysis might be useful in tracking trends in prostate cancer screening to provide support to campaign developers.
