Abstract:

Aiming to analyze the prevalence of Common mental disorders (CMD) in adults and elderly people in Teresina, Piauí, a home-based survey (EpiCOVID-Piauí) was carried out from March to November of 2022, including groups of adults and elderly people. The CMD outcome was assessed according to sociodemographic variables, health status, food consumption and lifestyle. The predominance of CMD was numbered in 31.3% (95%CI 27.9-34.9), associated with female gender (RP= 3.77; 95%CI 1.40-10.12) and regular consumption of alcoholic beverages (RP= 4.54; 95%CI 1.16-17.8). One third of the study population had CMD, with a higher prevalence in females, among those who reported regular alcohol consumption. The espousal of healthy habits, such as lifestyle changes, are recommendations addressed to mitigate possible impacts of the pandemic in relation to CMD, reflecting a readjustment in personal and social lives of individuals in post-pandemic.
