Abstract:

We conducted a cross-sectional comparative study on the nutritional outcome of severely obese patients are candidates for bariatric surgery assisted by the Unified Health System (SUS) and Supplemental Health Network (RS). The mean follow-up preoperatively was 14.3 ± 7.7 months in the SUS and 2.4 ± 1.7 months in the RS. There was a female predominance among patients attended by SUS (80.6%) and RS (75.7%). We observed a significant reduction in weight, BMI and waist circumference (WC) and total cholesterol values of patients of both health networks. Patients attended by SUS showed no significant decrease in LDL, Triglycerides and Fasting glycemia, while patients assisted by RS showed a significant reduction of these values. The greater weight loss among patients SUS is explained by them have been followed for a longer time. The slight reduction of most biochemical indicators of public patients can be justified by the same presenting a more advanced degree of obesity.
