Abstract:

The article is a contribution to methodological discussions of the pillar “participation” that guides the strategies of Health Promotion. Reflects on the conceptual and methodological bases of the so-called Extended Communities of Research-Action (CAP) as device for an Emancipatory Promotion of Health (PES), taking for reference the experience acquired for the Territorial Laboratory of Manguinhos. A CAP brings together researchers, other professionals and mainly residents who live and work in the territory with their knowledge and distinct viewpoints and, together, reflect about socioenvironmental problems, public policies and al-ternatives in a given context. Initially three key aspects for PES are discussed: social partici-pation, social determination and shared production of knowledge, presents in the formulation of the national Policy of Health Promotion. Based on the experiences of research-action in slums, an abyssal gap between what‘s written in the Policy and institutional practices in spaces marked by borders, lack of rights and huge tensions were observed. As a result of the CAP findings, various devices has been produced in accessible languages facilitating the knowledge appropriation and the enhancement of the action of social movements. This article concludes with some thoughts and challenges for the Emancipatory Promotion of Health.
