Abstract:

In 2015, a spectrum of congenital anomalies including microcephaly affected newborns as a result of vertical transmission by the Zika virus infection, later called Congenital Zika Syndrome. Since then, around 4000 children have been affected in 27 countries, Brazil have been the most affected. Family caregivers have also been impacted. This study analyzes scientific publications about family caregivers of children with SCZ and how the disease has affected their life dynamics. An Integrative Literature Review was carried out based on consultations in PubMed, Virtual Health Library and Embase databases. After the screening, 31 articles were identified for analysis. The main results were grouped into four categories: a) social impacts - changes in family relationships, life projects and social life; b) subjective impacts - feelings of resilience, loneliness, grief, overload, fear, uncertainty and relationship with spirituality were identified; c) economic and material impacts - loss of income, increase in expenses, change of residence and unemployment; and d) impacts on health - unpreparedness of services, selflessness, self-care, changes in nutritional and sleep patterns and repercussions for mental health with potential for changes in levels of stress, anxiety and depression.
