Abstract:

We have investigated the interdisciplinarity in the work of professionals of a Residency Course on Family Health in Southern Brazil, in a qualitative study involving 11 residents and 5 supervisors of seven professions. Through interviews, observations and focal groups we analysed the interdisciplinarity in practice identifying procedures, favourable and unfavourable elements and strategies to implement it. The interdisciplinarity was expressed as a complex process and concrete action, that occurs in the drama of one’s use of oneself, in a dialectic relationship with the political institutional context. The study highlighted that working in family health care make the work more complex and that the professionals experience the difficulties in sharing knowledge and in moving between the multi and the inter. The study concludes that interdisciplinarity requires integrated use of knowledge in the multi-professional practice, invasion of discipline boundaries, competence development to address environmental challenges and personal attitude as a professional action basic component.
