Abstract:

The article analyzes the role of Permanent Comissions of Education-Service Integration (CIES) in the implementation of Continuous Health Education (EPS) Policy. It is a multicenter qualitative-quantitative approach study using self-administered online questionnaire and semi-structured interviews as a data collection technique. The key informants were the responsible for EPS policy from the 27 State Health Secretariats (SES) and 07 CIES coordinators of the five Brazilian regions. The findings indicate the existence of EPS specific sector in most of SES with their managers having high education, experience and stable contract arrangement. Regarding CIES, it was noted: their existence in most states; diversity in their creation process; diversity in their composition; regular meetings; good relationship with educational institutions; difficulties in the use and management of resources for the EPS. The study pointed out advances, demonstrating the importance of these instances as spaces of negotiation, agreement and development of EPS. However, challenges still need to be overcome in order to consolidate projects in the SES and to strengthen the Continuous Health Education Policy.
