Abstract:

The aim of current study was to carry out the cross-cultural adaptation of a questionnaire designed by a team from the University of London for the Brazilian Portuguese language to assess knowledge and attitudes of health professionals about child physical abuse. The translation followed the criteria described by Herdman (1998), to preserve to the maximum functional equivalence. After translation and cross-cultural adaptation the questionnaire was test on 107 health professionals from Belo Horizonte. The Kappa and Weighted Kappa tests were used to evaluate its stability. Most of the questions achieved Kappa values above 80% (excellent). The Brazilian version of the questionnaire was, therefore, stable and suitable for use in Brazil.
