Abstract:

The assignments of the Community Health Agents (CHA) in the field of oral health are not clearly defined in the literature. This study aimed to redefine the main attributions of CHA in relation to the work processes in oral health in basic health care. Method: a logical theoretical model based on official publication with six dimensions of work was used. The model was built based on the dentistry attributions of CHA, and it was sent to thirty \"experts\" chosen intentionally for the consensual study through the Delphi technique. The matrix presented as dimensions: family registration, mapping of the area of action, home visit, working health education in the community, participation in the community and intersectorial action. The detailing of these dimensions was performed with sub-dimensions and measurable criteria. Results: After analyzing the dimensions by the study participants, two criteria were excluded. Fourteen experts concluded the study. The final matrix demonstrated the need for CHA to be trained in several oral health topics. Conclusion: This study provides an objective picture of the work process of the CHA in oral health and demonstrates the capacity of CHA to carry out oral health promotion, surveillance, prevention and education activities.
