Abstract:

The effectiveness of Health Services can be evaluated from the perspective of quality of life (QOL). Then, this study evaluated the full conventional denture´s (FCD) rehabilitation services from Specialized Dental Care Centers (SDCC) of a Rio Grande do Norte´s (RN) mesorregion in relation to the daily difficulties associated with these dentures made between 2007 and 2009. To this end, we carried out a sectional study with 138 users of these FCD, collecting data by clinical examination and questionnaire based on Oral Impacts on Daily Performances index. The Fisher and chi-square tests (α = 5%) were used to verify the association between the variables. As result, 42% of users reported difficulties, related to FCD´s problems, to execute oral activities. These difficulties were more frequent and intense in the activities of eat, speak and smile. In general, 58,7% of users did not have functional teeth. In relation to FCD´s clinical evaluation, 57,2% of upper and 9,2% of lower FCD were satisfactory. There were an association between difficulty´s presence and functional teeth´s absence (p=0,005), but not with clinical unsatisfactory FCD. Then, the SDCC were effective in FCD´s upper rehabilitation, since the found difficulties are within the common limitations of this rehabilitation. Otherwise, the cost-benefit of lower rehabilitation must be evaluated.
