Abstract:

From an anthropologic perspective, this article combines recent approximations that question the homology between death and biologic decease, with the tradition of studies that review the death rituals in the Andean geographic area. In particular, it examines how in El Cajón, Catamarca, Northeast Argentina, the dead is incorporated to the cosmologic scheme, and how death, being the kick-start for this to happen, is not merely a biologic event but also a greatly dinamyc social process. From the ethnographic field work, and regarding open interviews of multiple sessions and participant-observation as methodological tools, it presents an analytic proposal that intends to overcome the homology between death and biologic decease, suggesting a notion that includes the organic dimension and the social as well: the process of death.
