Abstract:

This study aimed to evaluate self-perception response of dental and prenatal care in Unified Health System (SUS) from Metropolitan Region of Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil. 1032 postpartum women were interviewed and 1006 cards prenatal copied. Postpartum women’s self-perception was measured by Oral Health Index Profile-14. When impact was identified, assistance was considered adequate dental care that offered attention in educational, preventive and curative levels. When impact was absent, assistance was considered appropriate in two initial levels. Chi-square tested an association between prenatal care and dental care. Oral health impact on quality of life prevalence was 14.7%. Prevalence of dental care received by mothers in educational level was 41.3%, in preventive level was 21.0% and curative level was 16.6%. Performance of six or more prenatal visits and educational activities were strongly associated with appropriate dental care (p <0.05). Dental services access is facilitated when pregnant women attend health services and become involved in educational activities prenatal period. Therefore, educational measures seem to indicate improvement of prenatal care in the SUS.
