Abstract:

Objective: To compare sensitivity, specificity and false positive and negative values between self-reported and laboratory tests diagnosis for diabetes, chronic kidney disease and hypercholesterolemia. Methods: Informationthe interview and laboratory tests of the National Health Survey (2013,2014-2015) were used. Sensitivity, specificity were calculated, according to sex, age, education, having health insurance and time since the last medical consultation. We use logistic regression to analyze associated factors with the occurrence of false positives and false negatives. Results: Sensitivity was higher for diabetes, and among the elderly and those who had a medical appointment more recently. Specificity was high for all diseases, with better performance among younger people, those with high schooling and those who consulted more than one year ago. The chances of false positives and false negatives decreased with schooling and increased with age. Conclusion: Low sensitivity suggests that prevalence might be higher than self-reported measures indicates.
