Abstract:

This work discusses the relationship among hypertension, diabetes, anxiety, depression, and social support through primary care. This research aimed at detecting the association among: physical disease, mental disease, support network, and perceived social support in the research sample. This study is a cross section ed in a bigger research project, funded by Pan American Health Organization and carried out in 2002, in Petrópolis municipality, RJ. The sample consisted in 714 patients with ages ranging18 to 65 years old. The results showed association between variablessupport network either with presence of hypertension or diabetes, and also with the presence of common mental disorders, but with normal patterns. While in the patients afflicted with hypertension and diabetes, associations with the perceived support were positive; although on those TMC patients they were negative and associated in a inverted way to the degree of mental disease.
