Abstract:

The cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the drug users of São José Institute - São José / SC, quality of life, self-esteem and self-image. The accessibility sample was composed by 100 male patients with a mean age of 43,0 ± 10,7 years old, who had studied for a mean period of 8,4 ± 3,7 years. 48% of them are married and had been hospitalized or treated for a minimum period of seven days.When the participants are not hospitalized they live with wives and children (23%), are married (48%), employed (72%), are part of economic stratum B (58%), have done something they regret in their lives (57%) and perceive their health as good (57%). Regarding quality of life, higher scores were presented in the environmental dominium (65%) and lowest in psychological (58%). All patients were taking medication and had low self-esteem and self-image (77% and 96% respectively). It was observed by means of logistic regression, the absence of interference of the quality of life on self-esteem and self- image of the drug users. The positive quality of life did not interfere to changes in low self-esteem and self-image of drug users.
