ABSTRACT
The current concerns with quality of life (QV), aging of the population, limitations imposed by the balance disturbs in the elder population and the treatment alternative through the vestibular rehabilitation (RV) had justified this study. In it the objective was to analyze, in perspective, the application of the protocol of Cawtome & Cooksey for RV results, in aged institutionalized people, with complains of balance alterations and probability of fall (PQ), aiming the improvement of QV and that these elder people could percept the limitations imposed by the balance disturb. A hybrid methodology was used, searching a integration of quantitative and qualitative data, the experimental study was associated to phenomenological, in a population of 30 elder people in an asylum with complains of balance alterations. The evaluation instruments had been the Berg Scale, Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) and speech analysis. As conclusion of the study, it was evidenced that, at the population studied, the RV was effective regarding the symptoms improvement of balance alteration in relation to QV, PQ and regarding to the security and independence feelings of the elder people.
