Abstract:

This study discusses recent changes in the management of prison health in Brazil, in the context of the emergence of the National Policy of Comprehensive Health Care for Persons Deprived of Freedom in the prison system, and of the termination of the National Coordination of Prison Health. The language of prison health policy is addressed as a scientific problem. Using Pierre Bourdieu‘s genetic structuralism in an analysis of documents and public statements, State categories and classifications were ellicited. The consolidation of State classifications separating the penitentiary domain from the ‘prison‘ domain was observed, as well as the creation of the State category of ‘person deprived of freedom in the prison system.‘ The management of prison health sediments as a primary care issue.
