Abstract:

Introduction: Exercising is beneficial to the health of older people, but when they are performed outdoors in climate influence and pollution as seen with intensification of fires during the dry season in the city of Cuiaba may expose them to risks. Méthod: Temporal ecological study involving 118 active seniors in Cuiabá. Information about medication use, smoking, anthropometric measurements, spirometry, peak flow, oxygen saturation, heart rate, exhaled carbon monoxide, carboxyhemoglobin as well as weather data, fires and pollution were obtained. Results: Environmental temperature, relative humidity and burned was correlated with exhaled carbon monoxide and carboxyhemoglobin (p <0.05). Heart rate correlated with the environmental temperature changes, solar exposure and relative humidity (p <0.05).Conclusion: Elderly suffer environmental influences changing levels of exhaled carbon monoxide, carboxihemoglobin and heart rate being necessary monitoring during exercises, suggesting the use of monoximeter for evaluation of exposure to pollutants.
