Abstract:

Research aimed to analyze the ethical dimension on health professionals training, more specifically, in Dentistry. Interviews were conducted with teachers, academic activities observations and focus groups with students of two courses. Data analysis revealed some elements from the hidden curriculum that influence the training ethical dimension. Results suggest different ethics conceptions in the academic environment with predominance of deontological understanding, whose consequences in the management of daily ethical conflicts require attention. Grounding in common sense and lack of intentionality from the academic staff, regarding students‘ ethical training, indicate how imperative is the need to know the values they live, to understand how the moral development occurs and approach to a bioethical reference, in order to justify and instrumentalize the pedagogical-ethical issue. As a conclusion, it is essential to take individual and collective teaching responsibility, in order to make the professional training a human being integral training, as well.
