Abstract:

Eu, Nós… Elas Quilombolas, a documentary that shows the Quilombola identity and the right to the Covid-19 vaccine, brings up notions of priority, rights, privileges and identity during the process that needs to link the number of vaccine doses to the arms of citizens. In Brazil, faced with the federal government\'s omission, grounded in necropolitics and denialism, the lack of information led Quilombola communities to take responsibility for creating lists of those eligible to receive the vaccine. The production\'s objective was to use images as a political language in the field of health, documenting and providing visibility to these issues as an illustration of the confronting processes of social and health inequalities and inequities rooted in structural racism. By combining science and art, the method of audiovisual production, tangled with the references of the image sociology, visual anthropology, and the production and aesthetic devices of Coutinho, brought forth three central categories: the I, the We, and the THEM. This article presents these categories that underpinned the narrative construction of the documentary based on the potential of images, which presented themselves as an anti-racist political-educational devices, both during the production process and throughout public screenings.
