Abstract:

The organic food promotes Food and Nutritional Safety (FNS) and Regional Sustainable Development, it stimulates local production and uses no pesticides, chemical fertilizers and synthetic substances that harm, the consumer, the environment and rural workers. In this context, the Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar (PNAE) seeks to meet the requirements of the FNS. This study evaluated the inclusion of organic food in school meals, in the municipalities of Territórios Rurais do Rio Grande do Sul through interviews with local managers. 8 territories were visited and which of its 153 municipalities, 102 comprised the study sample. Of these, 20.58% (n = 21) said they buy organic produce from family farms. The Território Centro Sul showed the highest percentage of purchase, 40% (n = 6) of the municipalities visited purchased organic products, followed by Território Centro Serra, with 33.3% (n = 2), while the lowest percentage was 7.1% (n = 1) in the Território Campanha. The study identified the need for intersectoral action to develop organic production, as well as to stimulate the consumption of these foods in the school environment, to meet the requirements of the FNS.
