Abstract:

Health information systems make it possible to meet health problems and often represent the only information available making essential know its quality. Goal was evaluate the quality data about live births and deaths in the neonatal period in the Live Births Information System (SINASC) and Mortality Information System (SIM) in Espírito Santo state the period 2007 to 2009. Descriptive methodology with secondary data obtained from the e-mail address of the Unified Health System Department of Informatics, in which we analyzed the following dimensions of quality of information: accessibility, timeliness and completeness. Results indicate that the information is accessible and timely, with a lag of three years compared to the beginning of the study. The completeness the variables analyzed in the SINASC were mostly classified as excellent. The SIM exhibited high percentage of missing data on the number of birth certificates, mother‘s education and age and reproductive history. It is concluded that SINASC is an excellent source of information about births, however the SIM points to the undisputed need for improvements in the completeness of its information.
