Abstract:

Objective: To present the Brazilian Portuguese CRAFFT scale for screening of adolescent’s drug use and evaluate its responsiveness.
Method: Descriptive and quantitative study, evaluating applicability and responsiveness of Brazilian Portuguese version of CRAFFT scale through a sampling of 14-21 years adolescents attending technical schools. Three aspects were analyzed: difficulty in understanding the scale; validity of translated scale comparing a subsample that responded to CEBRID questionnaire; percentage who scored CRAFFT/CESARE positive in the cutoff established. Kappa coefficient was applied for correspondence between questionnaires and ROC curve evaluated psychometric differences within different cutoffs.
Results: CRAFFT/CESARE scale was applied in 2005 students, of which 1882 had 14-21 years. A minority of students (2,2%) had difficulty in understanding the questions. CRAFFT/CESARE specificity: 73.3%, sensitivity: 87.1%. The concordance degree was considered good (0,461). The CRAFFT/CESARE scored positive in 36.2%. Visual inspection of ROC curve showed best cutoff point at ≥2.
Conclusion: Brazilian Portuguese version of CRAFFT/CESARE was well understood; it has adequate psychometric properties and characteristics that enable its use in Brazilian context.
