Abstract:

The study evaluates the completeness of the data from the Mortality Information System in Espirito Santo, southeastern Brazil and in the period 1998 to 2007. It is a descriptive analytic study based on secondary data. Was evaluated the proportion of the ignored field in sex, age, race, educational degree and marital status in women who died of breast cancer. We used the scores excellent (variable shows less than 5% coverage incomplete), good (5% to 10%), fair (10% to 20%), poor (20% to 50%) and very poor (50% or more). Was calculated the equations for linear trend using SPSS, version 15.0 for non-completness over time. The results for gender and age were excellent for Espirito Santo ,Southeast region and Brazil. The filling of the variables race / color, education level and marital status had inadequacies in Espirito Santo. While in Southeast region and Brazil, the variables race / color and school degree have a decreasing trend for non-completion, in the state of Espirito the trend remains stable. For the variable marital status, the non-completeness is a growing trend in the state of Espirito Santo. It is concluded that the death certificates with breast cancer exhibit inconsistencies in Espirito Santo.
