Abstract:

ABSTRACT: Inappropriate dietary patterns, physical inactivity, smoking habits and alcohol intake represent a composite of risk facorts to non-communicable diseases and disorders. The encouragement of healthy eating habits represents a fundamentally important strategy to cope with the current feeding and nutritional problems. The objective of this research was to evaluate if the participation of individuals in a nutritional intervention group was able to modify their eating habits. The research was developed at a public health service, in Porto Alegre/RS. This is an experimental study accomplished through qualitative and quantitative research, in which group participants were evaluated before and after the nutritional intervention. The final sample had 10 participants which consisted of men and women in an average age of 48 years old. Most of them have completed high school, have an average family income of two half minimum wages and most of them were overweight. The results shown that the objective of the study was reached, since the group produced an improvement of the eating habits of the individuals and consequent weight loss. Therefore, we can conclude the effectiveness of the intervention performed in a group with emphasis on feeding and nutrition and recommended its implementation, in routine of health services of Brazilian Unified Health System.
