Abstract:

Objective: to investigate factors associated with HIV infection among adolescents and young adults, both sexes, registered in the Counseling and Testing Center (CTC) of Feira de Santana, Bahia. Methods: It was done an analytical study with a cross-sectional design, using data from the CTC Information System in the period from 2007 to 2011. Informations about 3.768 individuals were processed, being checked the difference between proportions with chi-square test (χ2) of Pearson (p <0.05) and stratified analysis by Prevalence Rate (PR) with confidence intervals (CI) 95%, considering as outcome the serological status. Results: during the study period, 73 young people were infected with HIV (prevalence of 1.94%). In the female population were identified associations, statistically significant, for seropositivity and drug use (PR = 2.1), alcohol consumption (PR = 2.13) and other drugs (PR = 6.72); being married or stable union (PR = 2.02). In males, were associated with seropositivity the consumption of other drugs (PR = 13.25) and homosexual/bisexual orientation (PR= 5.21). In both sexes, the category with stable partner, the seropositivity showed association with partner drug user and/or carrier STD and/or HIV. Conclusions: These findings indicate the necessity for effective measures on control and prevention of HIV infection, among young people.
