AbstractWe describe the frequency of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the associated factors and guidance received by men and womenhealth professionals in São Paulo City. Cross-sectional study conducted with men and women aged 15-64yo living in São Paulo city. Of 4,057 individuals who have had sexual activity, 6.3% reported prior STI, 4.3% of the women and 8.2% of the men. STI showed association among men: age >34yrs, first sexual intercourse unprotected and, among women: age >25yrs. Having had sexual intercourse with the same sex, among men and sexual debut after 15 years old and have not had a casual sexual partner in the last year among women were protective factors. 72.1% and 64.7% of women with STI received guidance about HIV and Syphilis testing while fewer than half of the men received these orientation (40.2% and 38.6 %). In conclusion, there is a high proportion of prior STIs among São Paulo city population, and this study enabled the development, implementation and evaluation of public health policies for STIs including HIV infection, with a reduction of barriers to access to condoms and the creation of an app for prevention.
