Abstract:

The values of the male culture involve health risk behaviors, and how men build and experience your masculinity becomes one of the most influential shapers of sicken and die. To identify the factors associated with the demand for health services, studying possible differences between the sexes was the objective this study. Were selected users of health services. The dependent variables were: sex (cultural indicator) and demand for health services (indicator of use of health services). Independent variables included socio-demographic and clinical-epidemiological characteristics. In the analysis of association between variables was used the Prevalence Ratio by univariate and multivariate analysis. The factors associated to the non-demand for health services included: being male, hours of operation of health care facilities, working hours of the user and does not have any disease. The factors facilitating demand (with adjust of confounding variables) for health services (protection) were: to be female aged 26 to 49 years.
It is relevant to the effective consolidation of a health care model that ask the contradiction that exists between the epidemiological data regarding men‘s health and the position of health services to remain in the common sense of invulnerability of men to the illness.
