Abstract:

The aim was to verify the association between patients\' and healthcare system characteristics with the time to start treatment for lung cancer by the Brazilian National Health System, in the Minas Gerais state. This is an observational non-concurrent prospective study, with patients who started treatment for lung cancer by the SUS,2008 to 2015. We ed sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of patients, besides organizational variables of the healthcare system. The logistic regression model evaluated the explanatory variables upon the outcome, which was the treatment start up to 60 days after diagnosis. The odds ratio (OR) and the 95% confidence interval (IC) were used to measure the strength of association. Characteristics such as being male and diagnosed with stage IV have increased the chance of starting treatment up to 60 days. On the other hand, the patient\'s age, the treatment start by radiotherapy and the place of residence have decreased it. The time to start treatment is associated with individual characteristics and the provision of services within the macro-regions, and the observed inequalities possibly raisethe better or worse access by the population to the services provided by SUS.
