Abstract:

Aim: To analyze the factors associated with the use of public dental care by adults. Methodology: Cross-sectional study with a representative sample of adults aged 35 to 44 years, with datathe Oral Health Conditions Epidemiological Survey of the Population of the State of São Paulo (SBSP-2015). We used multivariate logistic regression analysis, based on a model proposed by Andersen to predict access to public dental services. Results: 3.421 (59.9%) adults visited the fee for service and 2.288 (40.1%) the public health insurance. Public dental services were more accessed by women (41.8%) and less educated (50.2%). Non-white individuals (OR = 1.32, 95% CI: 1.16, 1.50), lower family income (OR = 2.37, 95% CI: 2.11, 2.65), toothache OR = 1.60, IC95%: 1.39, 1.83) and need for endodontic treatment (OR = 1.44, 95% CI: 1.12, 1.85) were associated with the use of public dental services. Conclusion: Contextual, individual and need for treatment factors were associated with the use of public dental care by adults living in São Paulo state in 2015.
