Abstract:

Considering that the drugstore is the health establishment where medications are dispensed, health surveillance is justified as a means of intervention. In order to monitor the risks of health, drugstores are implementing health technologies to develop a series of preventative actions. The theory of process of work in health was applied in this study with the objective of describing and analyzing the facilitating and hindering factors found in the use of health surveillance in Salvador. The case study undertaken employed the analytical categories based upon inherent factors hindering and facilitating the technicians, the drugstore, the health surveillance service and the social environment. The data was collected through direct observation techniques and semi-structured interviews. The interviews were analyzed by their content. The corpus was processed and analyzed using the software QSR N VIVO. The nature of the results obtained from the health surveillance activities of Salvador drugstores indicates the necessity of urgent changes in the service environment and health culture of the country. The study also suggests the possibilities need for higher quality for health protection and safety, a favorable scenario for further development in health surveillance coupled with the decentralization and construction of the National System of Health Surveillance.
