Abstract:

This paper debates the ways and strategies to acess public policies used by families of women incarcerated in Women‘s Penitentiary of the Federal District, Brazil. Seeks to contribute to the construction of health promotion actions for the female population living in prison situation. Some of the claims were showed in the National Policy for Integral Attention to Health of Persons Deprived of Liberty in the Prison System, especially those that recognize the importance of intersectoral actions and relationship networks to promote health. It presents data from a research conducted at the Penitentiary in 2014 that used the qualitative methodology through participant observation and semi-structured interviews with family members of women incarcerated in the Federal District. We can say that it is necessary pay attention to the different relationship produced between women arrested and their families, and especially to the narrative of exhaustion and difficult access to public policies. A more accurate look on how this population organize themselves could help to develop public policies to promote health and overcoming social vulnerability of this invisible population.
