Abstract:

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of dyslipidemia and associated factors in children aged 4 to 7 years old.
Methods: Cross-sectional study with 402 children 4-7 years, followed by a Lactation Support Program in the first six months of life. Was measured total cholesterol, high triglycerides and lipoproteins (HDL) and low density (LDL).Variables were selected that could be associated with lipid profile, such as family history of dyslipidemia, nutritional status and dietary intake of children. We conducted analysis of Poisson regression with variance robusta. The significance level was set at p <0.05.
Results: We observed increased levels of LDL by 46.8%, total cholesterol by 37.6%, triglycerides by 10.4% and HDL below desirable in 33.8% of children. There was a significant association between family history of dyslipidemia with total cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides (p<0.05 e p<0.001, respectively); early weaning with LDL (p<0.05); Sedentarism LDL and triglycerides (p<0.05 e p<0.001, respectively) and HDL with the candy intake (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Among the children studied, we observed significant prevalence of alterations in the lipid profile. Are needed nutrition education activities and programs for this group.
