Abstract:

This article is a manifesto for transgression in qualitative health research. It stems from a critique of obedience and the uncritical reproduction of established methods and theories, aiming to expand and challenge how research is conducted in this field. It is a theoretical essay structured around three movements: un-inhibiting methods, expanding the possible, and writing the forbidden. Research is defended as a creative act and an exercise in epistemic disobedience, drawing on thinkers such as Law, Nietzsche, and Feyerabend. While Feyerabend critiques method, our position is not against method itself, but against its normative imprisonment. By recognizing the intimate connection between lived experience and the act of researching, we propose a sensitive, engaged, and rigorous methodological approach—one capable of affirming the multiplicity of the world and its objects. Here, to transgress is to open up other paths for knowledge production, more attuned to the complexity of life and experience.
