Abstract:

Background: Background: The understanding regarding the trends on the fruit and vegetable consumption among adolescents is an important issue in order to develop public health actions. Purpose: To investigate the changes over ten years on the fruit and vegetable daily consumption among adolescentesSanta Catarina, according to sex, age and housing area. Methods: A painel study with a secondary analysisthe Lifestyle and Risk Behavior of AdolescentesSanta Catarina, Brazil (ComPAC). Adolescents (15-19 years) of public schools in 2001 (n=5.028) and 2011 (n=6.529) answered a questionnarie about fruit and vegetable consumption as well as about sociodemographic aspects. It was applied descriptive statistics and logistic regression, according to sex, age and housing area. Results: There was an decrease on the daily fruit (39,1% and 16,6%) and vegetable (40,1% and 20,6%) consumption. Distinct prevalences were observed when analyzed by subgroups, mainly among girls. From 2001 to 2011, the likelihood of daily fruit consumption among boys and daily vegetable consumption among rural adolescents remained the same. Conclusion: A decrease on the daily consumers of fruit and vegetables among adolescentesSanta Catarina point out the need for the development of strategies to reverse this scenario.
