ABSTRACTAfter the implementation of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), Brazil, and other developing countries, has become more assertive in multilateral negotiations and went on to defend the current international intellectual property system needs to be more well adapted to their needs and interests. In doing so, the country has stressed that intellectual property is not uniquely associated with the trade, but also to public health and human rights issue. Therefore, this study proposes to analyze the performance of the Brazilian government in the multilateral negotiations involving public health, innovation and intellectual property. In rescuing the memory of Brazilian diplomacy in this specific area, it is concluded that Brazil is leading the debate, seeking alternatives to mitigate the rious effects of the current international system of intellectual property on access to medicines and other medical technologies in developing countries.
