Abstract:

The purpose of this article is to map, characterize and qualify the health care provided by SUS and services under SUS’ contract to the elderly people in situations of violence in Rio de Janeiro, based on major policies aimed at this group. This is an exploratory study that make a triangulation of quantitative and qualitative methods. The introduction and implementation of policies is differentiated for the units: they are more accomplished at the pre-hospital and hospital level’s and less on rehabilitation level. The challenges are the professional’s preparation to identify, attend and report cases of violence; include the subject in elderly’s care; give visibility to the specific attention to the elderly woman; support and guide families to this care; make strategies to redeem the bonds of affection; monitor the changes that lead to functional disability and improving elderly’s life quality.
