Abstract:

The current configuration of the field of Indigenous Health in Brazil reflects the impacts of a five-century history of colonial violence, which has resulted in depopulation, discrimination, and social vulnerability. Racisms and various forms of violence, along with the loss of territories and environmental degradation, are part of the daily life of Indigenous peoples. This editorial introduces the contents of a thematic issue of Ciência & Saúde Coletiva (C&SC), the journal\'s first dedicated to this topic, featuring reflections and analyses on the contemporary scenarios and challenges in the field of Indigenous Health. Altogether, there are over twenty contributionsauthors, both indigenous and non-indigenous,institutions across the country, as well as foreign researchers, highlighting the diversity of methodological and thematic perspectives. The contributions underscore the need for connections between research activities and critical reflection in the area of public health, considering the challenges in indigenous health and the ongoing need to enhance public policies.
