Abstract:

. The aim of this study was to evaluate the perception of health related quality of life (HRQOL) of adolescents. This is a cross-sectional study with 807 adolescents aged 10 to 17 years from two public schools of Niteroi and four private schools of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Goncalo were investigated. Informations on HRQOL were obtained by reduced version of Kidscreen instrument with 27 items. Student t tests were used to assess the perception of HRQOL stratified by type of school, gender, age and number of household belongings. Linear regression models were performed to evaluate HRQOL scenarios. In general, the assessed adolescents have a good HRQOL. However, the results show significant differences in the perception of each dimension of HRQL between subgroups. Adolescents from private schools had better HRQOL compared to public schools in all Kidscreen-27 dimensions. Older teens, the public school and those with lower number of household belongings had lower values of HRQoL in most dimensions, particularly in the dimension ‘Autonomy and Relationship to Parents‘. Disclosure of the differentiated profile of HRQOL in adolescents is the first step in the development of action strategies in the school environment that prioritizes the most vulnerable groups.
