Abstract:

The objective of this study was to characterize the profile and aspects related to the management work of community health workers in Northeastern Brazil region. This is a cross-sectional study, which included 535 community agents distributed in 107 basic health units in Northeastern Brazil. These data were extractedeight blocks of questions related to the Community Agent’s perception about social-demographic,
economic and political factors. The results indicate that the proportion of community agents hired by direct administration in the Northeast Region is predominant. The
integration of the community agents in health services was given by public tender, followed by public ion. Public Administration is the main form of employment,
however, new modalities such as the foundations of public and private law, social organization, and intercity consortiums, are alternatives adopted by managers producing
a set of weaknesses caused by flexible labor relations.
