Abstract:

The Family Health Strategy (FHS) has been shown effective results in health indicators. In this cross-sectional study, the impact of oral health teams (ESB) of the Family Health Strategy was evaluated. The impact of oral health teams (OHT) of the FHS on oral health of 2581 adolescents aged 12 and 15-19 years in 36 municipalities (19 with and 17 without OHT/ FHS) was evaluated. Four dentists performed oral examinations. Socioeconomic status, use and access to health services were collected through structured questionnaire. Presence of OHT in the FHS were the main independent variables. Outcomes were DMFT and its components, toothache, gingival bleeding, and dental calculus. Data analyses were done by means of negative binomial and Poisson regression. Multilevel analysis was done to adjust the outcomes to OHT/FHS and individual variables. Unadjusted analyses showed no association between OHT and the outcomes. After adjustment, young people of not covered areas by the ESB/ESF had almost half of tooth loss of adolescents of coverage areas (RM=0.64 CI 95%, 0.43 to 0.94).
