Abstract:

This article aims to understand the implications of the Covid-19 pandemic on the practice of breastfeeding and health promotion actions within the scope of primary care, the perception of breastfeeding women. Qualitative study, developed with 24 women who breastfed during the first year of the pandemic. Data were analyzed using Content Analysis and interpreted in the light of the Interactive Theory of Breastfeeding. The pandemic had an impact on the vulnerability of the mental health of lactating women, difficulties for the continuity of breastfeeding and early ion of formulas, adoption of preventive measures against Covid-19 in the act of breastfeeding and changes in the work of breastfeeding women. In addition, weaknesses were identified in health promotion actions and in the support of the mother-child binomial, due to the interruption of childcare consultations. It is concluded that, although most of the study participants maintained exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, the actions to promote child health in primary care were unsatisfactory, and could have a negative impact on child morbidity and mortality.
