Abstract:

The existence of inactive dumps increases him considerably denominated like this "passive environmental"; so much that the final destination of the urban solid residues occupies primordial place in the line of the environmental subjects of the societies (Capelli1, 2002). In the State of Santa Catarina, it can be affirmed that, now, it is ignored the real state formally in that they are the "deposits of final destination" or, more simply, the inactive dumps. That is maybe more evident in the carboniferous area of the State, already so sacrificed by the environmental impacts of the mining of the coal. This work looked for to accomplish a rising of the inactive dumps in the carboniferous area of Santa Catarina, analyzing the risks that these act to the public health and the environment. The obtained results show that, of the eleven municipal districts belonging to the carboniferous area, nine possess inactive dumps. In those nine municipal districts there is eleven inactive dumps, that, second to present evaluation, they present great risk to the health of the population and the environment when considered the analyzed parameters.
