The annual child mortality coefficient was calculated according to race/skin color. The investigation of mortality components and by group of avoidable, ill-defined and non-avoidable causes for the three triennia. Infant mortality rates declined for all color or race categories, with a predominance of mixed and black children. Early neonatal death had higher mortality rates for all categories, except for the indigenous population, one has registered predominance in the post-neonatal component. Deaths were mainly due to preventable causes, and they were not homogeneous among race/skin color categories. Deathsill-defined causes predominated among indigenous and mixed children. The distribution of infant deaths revealed differences in mortality components and avoidable causes according to racial ethnic characteristics, which could contribute to the direction of public policies that qualify the mother-child care network, especially for ethnic minorities.
