Abstract:

Primary health care (PHC) proved to be an important part of the prevention, control and treatment measures for COVID-19, while at the same time it was challenged to maintain the provision of regular services. The aim of this article is to conduct an integrative literature review to identify the main arrangements developed to provide PHC care in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was carried out in the PubMed, SciELO and Lilacs databases using the descriptors “Primary Health Care” and “COVID-19”. The results were analyzed using three questions: Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Organizations of Work Processes and Non-COVID Chronic Diseases. The use of different forms of ICT in the care offered in PHC is highlighted, both for patients with respiratory symptoms and for chronic patients. Changes in the functioning and composition of teams, service flows, physical spaces and opening hours were also implemented. Although strategies aimed at monitoring chronic patients and remote care may have contributed to minimizing the health problems of these users, the decrease in the number of visits performed during this period could result in a great demand for PHC in the post-pandemic years.
