Abstract:

Although mostly studies show health as a result of social and economic REPLACEion of the individuals, it is believed that health can be considered a determining factor of the social opportunities achieved, especially regarding occupational opportunities and chances of social mobility. Objective: To understand the magnitude of the concurrent associations in which sociodemographic, health and quality of life conditions (SF-36) exercise on intergenerational social mobility chances on a probabilistic sample of Brazilian homes in 2008. Methodology: Social mobility was determined by the transition of occupational groups which were outlined by the Ganzeboom scale. Sociodemographic, health and quality of life features were associated with social mobility through logistic regression. Results: A high level of schooling stands was the main determinant of intergenerational upward social mobility chances. Women and youngsters ascended more intergeneratively. Also, a positive association was observed between self assessment of health, physical health scores and upward social mobility. Conclusions: Social mobility was marked as a multidetermined event. Physical health and perceived health were able to influence social transitions.
