Abstract:

This research is based on epidemiological records on occurrences of individual records and pesticide poisoning toxicological investigation at thePoison Control Center in Regional University Hospital of Maringá. The intoxication in patients intoxicated from 2002 to 2011, in towns belonging to the Mesoregion Geographic North Central Paranaense where Maringá is located was considered in this study. As a result, we can establish that approximately 67,12% of males were intoxicated, the age groups most affected are 20-29 years old and 30-39 years old. Suicide attempts appear as the main motivation for hospitalization (possibly disguising the chronic intoxication), and mainly insecticides and herbicides are involved in the poisonings, with 62,60% to 26%, respectively. Finally, caveat is for public health policies in order to immediately decrease such picture, for these poisonings are noticeable, and not being computed through food poisoning.
