Abstract:

n Brazil, and worldwide, there are discrepancies between the official statistics of occupational diseases (PD) and the estimates of epidemiological studies. Sociology of science and public inaction are fundamental constructs to investigate the successive rules in the system of recognition of OD globally. The analysis of the different logical frameworks and normative horizons that ground the diagnosis, reporting and registration of OD provided elements to understand this reality. The statistical underestimation has not changed, despite the innovations in the OD lists, mainly in the period 1999-2007. Rather, the intertwining of the effects of scientific ignorance, legal order and medical-administrative entities are the main pillars for the production of the social invisibility of the problem.
