Abstract:

The aims of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and preventive behavior on toxoplasmosis and to relate to the socioeconomic, prenatal and environmental conditions among the pregnant women of the Family Health Strategy (FHS), in the city of Imperatriz, Maranhão, Brazil. The research was a cross-sectional study, in which a structured and pre-tested questionnaire was applied, with a sample of 239 pregnant women. Only 23,4% of pregnant women presented good knowledge about the disease, with emphasis on prevention; 58,9% adequately adopted preventive behaviors. The results obtained point out the significant association with several risk factors for toxoplasmosis, such as: untreated water consumption (OR=2,1245, CI 95%=1,20-3.73, p=0,0128), contact with cats (OR=7,6875,CI 95%=4,22-13,97, p
