Abstract:

The social determinants of health-disease process and the challenge of comprehensive care have led the World Health Organization to propose the complementary and alternative medicine to make up the health policy. In Brazil in 2006 was published the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) tool for the institutionalization of homeopathy in the National Health System (SUS). This paper analyzes the knowledge of health managers of municipalities of São Paulo on PNPIC, and its influence on Homeopathy attention. In 2008 DATASUS were identified in the municipalities that took homeopathic consultations for 2000-2007, managers were interviewed and the results were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, of the 645 municipalities, 47 had offered homeopathy and 42 were interviewed. Of those, 26% know the PNPIC, 31% know little, 41% do not know. It is noteworthy that those experts said PNPIC to use: instructing the local government about homeopathy, the construction of specific legislation and the increase in homeopathic services. We conclude that the PNPIC is unknown by health managers and those in the know use it to make known the homeopathic medical rationale and justify his statement in the SUS.
